Welcome to the website, the following is an article that was written recently about Rick in a national magazine. As Rick's Dad would always say, "I trust this will answer some of your question about his life and as the son of Howard & Vestal Goodman and a renowned, award winning producer."
Let me introduce you to the last remaining, original member of the "Happy Goodman Family". His name is Rick Goodman, and he first performed with this famous family when he was just three years old. He played the ukulele. You didn't know that did you? Neither did I until I sat down to talk with him to discuss his life in the music that he grew up on.
For years, I knew him as most of you probably did, as the son of Howard and Vestal Goodman and the drummer for the Happy Goodman Family. But did you know that since 1968 Rick has made musical contributions to over eleven hundred recordings as a musician and a producer. He produced projects with, Wayne Newton, Dolly Parton, Larnelle Harris, Bebe Winans, Cece Winans, George Jones, Sandi Patty, Vestal Goodman, Ricky Skaggs, Vince Gill, Andre' Crouch, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Della Reese, Bill Gaither, Jake Hess, George Younce, Janet Paschal, Jessy Dixon, Alabama, Newsboys, Rusty Goodman, Carman, Lee Greenwood, Wynonna, Jerry Clower, Jerry Reed, John Elefante, Michael W. Smith, The Oakridge Boys, The Statesman, The Blackwood Brothers, Dottie Rambo, Brad Paisley, The Martins, The Whites, Jeff & Sherri Easter, Bill Anderson, Jack Green, Little Jimmy Dickens, Mark Lowery, The Gaither Vocal Band, The Katinas, Russ Taft and The Happy Goodmans.
He did personal management for the Happy Goodman Family and Vestal Goodman. He founded a major record company whose artists spanned all genre's. He promoted and managed multiple tours in Christian music and produced and or contributed musically to television and video productions for CBS, CBN, TBN, INSP, TNN, and CMT networks. He produced the Happy Goodman segment (the video roll-in, lowering the lights and the instant appearance of the Happy Goodman's on stage singing gospel as only they could) of the Homecoming tour, the third largest grossing tour in the U.S. between 1994 and 2003. He also produced the "Final Stand" tour for the Happy Goodmans.
He produced the U.S. Bicentennial Tour of God and Country "1976" and produced two Grammy award winning projects between 1968 and 1978 for the Happy Goodmans. He was also responsible for the graphic design for their Grammy award winning album in 1978. He produced and/or contributed musically to multiple gold and platinum video projects. The most recent project was "Fifty Years - The Happy Goodmans".
Sounds like he has been really busy. Well, he has been and he will be the first to tell you that, "he wouldn't take nothing for his journey now".
He will also tell you that, just as his mother and dad intended, "The Journey Continues".
Rick shared what he and his wife, Diane, have been up to since his Mon and Dad's heavenly reunion.
Through seeking God's guidance and much prayer, they have decided to continue Goodman Family Ministries, which includes "Vestal and Friends" website and the CD of the month club. The website provides a chat room, where folks visit, pray and share prayer request with each other. They also share testimonies of God's answers to those prayers and this past Labor Day weekend a large number of them gathered in Nashville to meet each other for the second time at "The Happy Gathering". They shared meals, fellowship, a concert, a tour of Nashville and a church service. They had so much fun that they immediately started asking Rick about taking reservations for next year. It was a wonderful event for Rick and Diane both. They got to put faces on the people that they had talked to and prayed with and who have prayed and supported them for the last two years. Next year's "Gathering" is already being planned.
